Vladimir Putin signed a law on advertising on pay TV channels

UFA, 5 February 2015. /Bashinform News Agency, Catherine Sokolova/. The Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the federal law, partly allowing advertising on subscription TV channels. The document was developed on the initiative of the All-Russian People’s Front.
Amendments to the law "On Advertising" include the dissemination of commercials in programs and broadcasts on channels, which are accessed only on a fee basis, provided broadcast by channels of at least 75 percent of national production.
As the official website of the Kremlin informs, the national production implies the programs produced by Russian nationals or organizations registered in the country, as well as products created by order of the Russian media, in Russian or other languages of the peoples of the Russian Federation.
According to the law, foreign investment in the national content should not exceed 50 percent of its cost.
The ban on advertising on pay TV channels came into force on January 1, which caused a wave of broadcasters’ discontent.
For the first time the same problems of regional channels were raised at the round table "Survival issues of regional cable television and radio broadcasters" which was organized by the Centre for Legal Support of Journalists of the All-Russian People’s Front in Ufa in October.
