Bashkortostan Senator Liliya Gumerova: "We should break the barriers in our mind not to make inclusion education become a mere illusion"

UFA, 21 November 2014. /Bashinform News Agency, Galiya Nabieva/. The round table on the topic "The state and challenges of legislative support of inclusive education for persons with disabilities" was held at the Federation Council.
Opening the meeting, the First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture, Bashkortostan Senator Liliya Gumerova noted that the legal grounds of inclusive education were the Federal Law "On Education in the Russian Federation" and the National Action Strategy to the Benefit of Children 2012-2017.
According to the Senator, one of the key issues of successful joint studying of schoolchildren with disabled children is formation of friendly, tolerant attitude to them. Liliya Gumerova gave an example of the "Breaking Barriers" campaign held in Bashkortostan.
She believes that co-education of children with disabilities with children who do not have health problems is not the main goal. It is more important today to form a proper society, tolerance and respect to disabled children and their problems, as well as change the disabled children’s attitude to the world.
As it was marked at the round table that in 2011 only 2.5 percent of all Russian schools were ready to accept the disabled children, but at the end of 2015 their number will be increased by 20 percent.
