Residents of Bashkortostan may be able to initiate legislation

UFA, 15 October 2014. /Bashinform News Agency, Catherine Sokolova/. Citizens of Bashkortostan may be able to bring in a legislation initiative. The draft law "On Civil Legislative Initiative in the Republic of Bashkortostan", submitted by the President of the Republic, was presented at a meeting of the State Assembly Committee on Local Government, Development of Civil Society and the Media by the deputy Alexander Deogtev.

“The bill proposes to establish a procedure for initiative group formation to support the legislative initiative, procedure of its registration and submitting to the Parliament, procedure for signatures collection in support of the initiative and their verification, as well as options for its consideration,” the parliamentarian said.

But there are some specific details. Thus, in order to submit the legislative initiative for discussion by deputies, a group of 30 people should collect 15,000 signatures for 30 days.

In addition, the bill contains restrictions on matters where citizens can not initiate legislation: the project should have no provisions dealing with corruptogenic factors.

The initiative was supported by the Committee and recommended for inclusion in the agenda of the forthcoming meeting of the Presidium of the republican parliament.
