Rustem Khamitov: "Ufa has developments that could reduce dependence on imports by 50 percent"

Rustem Khamitov in his interview to "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" evaluates how realistic is to reduce dependence on import by 2020.
“Ideally, we are able to work independently in all industries. But it’s hard to say how it is actually achievable. For example, in the field of communications currently the share of imported goods is about 95 percent. At our Ufa facilities we have developments that could reduce this dependence on imports by 50 percent” the head of the republic said.
According to Rustem Khamitov, this is a huge market in fact with a turnover of tens or even hundreds of billions of rubles. And there are businesses, technology and professionals who could perform this work.
“But today the industry is monopolized by foreign companies, including American ones. There is practically no communications equipment on our market. This is unacceptable”, the head of the republic considers.
The situation is similar in the chemical industry. Today, the country has 20 percent of the world's reserves of raw materials for the chemical industry, but produces only one percent of the world total of such products. As a result, almost all low-tonnage chemistry is imported.
