Rustem Khamitov: "It will take at least five years to boost the economy of Crimea"

Rozaliya Valeeva
“It will require some time to make things straighten out in Crimea. It will take Crimea at least five years to become strong, independent subject of the Russian Federation,” the President of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov said during his press conference on April 28.
“Last week I was in Crimea where an agreement with the Government of Crimea on cooperation, support from Bashkortostan was signed. An agreement was also signed with the authorities of Belogorsky region - a detailed document with a list of work to be carried out there. In addition, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of our republic signed an agreement with the Crimean CCI.”
“Crimea is the subject of the Russian Federation, it is doubly difficult for it to adjust to the Russian laws, to understand how to work in the regulatory field of the Russian Federation, to figure out how to submit applications and participate in federal programs.”
Thus Khamitov noted that Bashkortostan would not take full responsibility for the economic recovery of Crimea as a whole, and in particular of Belogorsky region.
“We will render help and teach people, support them, carry out training courses for those working in the public sector, and this will be our main support”, Khamitov said. “There are also issues of paramount importance - ill-preparedness of kindergartens, schools, hospitals, nursing homes for the next winter which will come in five months.”
“The Crimean Tatar population also experienced difficulties. 10-15 years ago they started to come back and faced with a shortage of land. They had to build settlements just in the open plain where there was no gas, no water, no electricity and nobody solved these problems. They should be solved and we identified a priority list of works to be conducted in Crimea.”
“Together we will seek investors, people who will work in Crimea. We will try to work together with "Gazprom" to connect Belogorsky region to gas supply pipelines, and will help our colleagues in laying water supply to every house.”
“People met us with enthusiasm. They believe that Russia, their own country where they returned will help them and will do everything that they can lead a normal life.”
