Party barrier in Russia could increase to five thousand people

The minimum number of members of political parties it is planned to be increased to five thousand. This was declared by the Deputy Chairman of CEC RF Leonid Ivlev at interregional conference in Ufa. Today, the minimum figure is 500 people.

The Duma will consider this bill in the first reading in January next year. The statutory act proposes to establish a period for which the parties must bring their membership in accordance with the new requirements.

According to Leonid Ivlev, the second reading of the draft law on elections of deputies of the State Duma is transferred on January. The draft law approved in the first reading proposes a mixed electoral system: 250 deputies on single-seat constituencies and 250 - on party lists.
