Rustem Khamitov has taken part in a seminar on the European Social Charter

The seminar on the European Social Charter takes place in Ufa these days. The President of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov addressed to participants and visitors of the seminar with an opening speech. He told about the ways of solving problems in social sphere of the region.
“From four million people living in the republic, about two million people are economically occupied, among them the share of able-bodied population is high,” Rustem Khamitov said. “Since 2009 the number of pensioners has increased by six percent in the republic, this tendency will set to continue and in the future. In these conditions work on human resources strengthening is of a special importance.”
Speaking about unemployment, Rustem Khamitov marked that since 2009, when was the peak of number of jobless people (13 percent), they managed to lower its level to six percent. Since 2010 by means of the employment centres 300 thousand people found jobs. Last year thanks to opening of new enterprises in Bashkortostan it was created even more 15 thousand jobs.
Speaking about disabled people employment, the President of Bashkortostan underlined importance of their integration into public life.
“A quota — nine thousand jobs for people with disabilities is established in the republic,” Rustem Khamitov said. “Besides, grants for organisation of 300 specialised jobs are allocated. Certainly, it is not enough, number of disabled people is about 300 thousand in Bashkortostan, from them 100 thousand people are capable to work.”
In his speech the head of the region mentioned also working conditions of women. According to Rustem Khamitov, it is necessary to create such conditions for them that women could combine both work and upbringing of children. Women should have a possibility to receive new trades being in a maternity leave.
Also Rustem Khamitov spoke about issues of occupational traumatism at the enterprises of the republic and observance of workers rights.
According to organizers, the seminar’s main objective is providing the fullest information to enforcement authorities of the Russian Federation about the European Social Charter as amended on May 3, 1996 for its wider application. Similar seminars have already passed in Moscow, St.-Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Nizhni Novgorod and other large Russian cities.
On the second day of work of the seminar participants will go to the city of Oktyubrsky where they will visit "Paker" research-and-production firm. There visitors will acquaint with manufacture, working conditions and available social guarantees for workers.
