Transportation corridor «Europe – the Western China» will help development of Volga Federal District

Construction of the international motor transportation corridor «Europe — the Western China» in the Volga Federal District (PFO) territory will promote economic development of the regions. Michael Babich, the Plenipotentiary of the President of Russia in PFO and the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Maxim Sokolov spoke about it at the meeting devoted to the preparation for the given project in Kazan.
Two thirds from three thousand kilometers of total length of the Russian route of the international motor transportation corridor will pass across the Volga Federal District.
The route will go over the territory of the Orenburg Region, Bashkortostan, Tatarstan, Chuvashiya and the Nizhniy Novgorod Region.
The complex approach at creation of the international transport route provides construction of new and reconstruction of existing parts of federal highways, arrangement of roadside service objects, terminal-logistical complexes construction.
As Michael Babich underlined thanks to the international highway in Volga regions new jobs would be created at construction of the road and its service, it would increase goods and cargo turnover, tourist industry would be developed. Revenues to the regional budgets will increase also.
The head of the Ministry of Transport added that more than 100 billion rbl. would be directed till 2018 for construction of a part of the road from М10 highway (Moscow — St.-Petersburg) to М7 (Moscow — Nizhni Novgorod). From these means 50 billion rbl. will be allocated from the federal budget and as much — from off-budget sources.
“Actually, the road is already under construction now. According to the schedule the project should be realised by 2020, but we will try to do it by 2018 — when in Russia the World Football Championship will be held,” Maxim Sokolov marked.
Legally the status of the new transportation corridor «Europe — the Western China» will be fixed in the international document — the agreement between the countries - the SCO participants.
It should be mentioned that in Bashkortostan construction of the road which is a part of the international transportation corridor «Europe — the Western China» began in August, 2012. Works are conducted in Ermekeevsky region of the republic.
