The first Khakimov’s readings started in Ufa

The first Khakimov’s readings “Russia and Arab world: history and up-to-dateness” held in Ufa Congress-Hall on November 29. The readings are devoted to the prominent diplomat Karim Khakimov, well-known in the Arab East as “Red Pasha”, who was the first diplomat, who established contacts of Soviet Russia with Arab countries. The forum is initiated by Ministry of education RB, Bashkir Academy of public service and management under the President RB, the Institute of ethnologic investigations by R.G. Kuzeev. The decision to hold the readings was reached in 2011 at the international conference “Russia and Islamic world: history and prospects of civilized interaction”, devoted to the 120th anniversary of Karim Khakimov.
Scientists, post-graduates and students from 11 Russian regions and CIS states are taking part in the forum, discussing historical experience and modern state of Russian-Arab relations, peculiarities of external political course at different stages and specifics of the present political situation in the light of the “Arab spring”.
The plenary session of the forum started with demonstration of the documentary by Radik Kudoyarov “Karim Khakimov: Arabian Vizier of Kremlin”. Leading Oriental scientists from Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Ufa and Russian scientific institutions make reports at the forum. Three round-table discussions will take place in the second half of the day: “The Arab East in public thinking and culture of Russia”: history and up-to-dateness”, “Arab world in Russian foreign policy and international relations”, “Karim Khakimov is a personality, public activist band Soviet diplomat” and the youth forum “Countries of the Arab East by the eyes of Russian youth”.
