Chelyabinsk’s Bashkirs want to preserve their native language and historical traditions

The field meeting of the World Bashkir Kurultay (Congress) executive committee has taken place in Chelyabinsk.
The chairman of the executive committee Ilgiz Sultanmuratov was talking about actual aims of the regional Bashkir communities on making the decisions of the III World Bashkir Congress a reality. The Minister of communication and mass communications RB Boris Melkoedov was analyzing the problems of Bashkir mass-media revival in Chelyabinsk region. He urged local Bashkirs to search for the possibility to broadcast BST (Bashkir satellite TV) TV-programs and programs of the radio “ULDASH” in the region. The chairman of the executive committee’s commission on Bashkir history, language and culture, Professor Rashit Shakurov made the proposals, aimed at preservation and development of Bashkir language in modern conditions. The deputy chairman of the World Bashkir Kurultay executive committee Valiakhmet Badretdinov called the reasons of disparaging attitude to teaching of native languages in Russia and urged the colleagues to appeal to the regional authorities with the proposal to advance the programs on preservation and development of the networks of national general education institutions in local Bashkir communities and underscored the necessity to search for the mutually acceptable solution of this problem jointly with Republic of Bashkortostan.
Within the frames of the field meeting the “round tables”, dedicated to ethnic history and spiritual culture of local Bashkirs and to the prospects of development of Bashkir business undertakings in the region, have taken place in Chelyabinsk.
In the course of the visit the delegation of the World Bashkir Kurultay executive committee and the group of journalists from Bashkortostan have laid flowers on the grave of Miftakhetdin Akmullah on the Miass Muslim cemetery and paid a visit the oldest representative of the regional Bashkir population Khabibyamal Khamitova, who had recently stepped over the 120-year point.
