President of Bashkortostan offered promising way for development of chemistry in Russia

The President of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov offered a promising way for development of oil-gas chemistry in Russia, taking the floor at the international forum “Big Chemistry” in Ufa. He says it is necessary to solve two key aims. First, this is provision of the processing enterprises with the staff, which is distributed on the territory of the country very unevenly, and, second, one should stake on big and not on small chemical companies. Such tendency is observed all over the world today and it is already proved its efficiency.
The President RB mentioned the situation in the Russian oil-gas chemistry was rather difficult.
“Our country is considered the biggest oil exporter in the world and at that it holds just 1% of the market of such high-tech products as, for example, polymers” – he said – “At that our own market of oil-chemical production is by more than 30% provided due to import”.
The President RB reminded the words of the Chairman of the Russian Government Vladimir Putin that “we sell the staff and after that buy the ready-made products, made of our staff, abroad”.
Russia noticeably stays behind the leading countries by oil-chemical output. Thus, the average per capita production of ethylene in Russia is three times lower than in Western Europe and by polyvinylchloride we stay four times behind.
“We all know about the so called effect of low base, which one can easily start growing from” – the President RB said – “If we produce not enough and export much, it means we have the market as well as the long-term demand and what can be more important for the investor than the long-term demand in the product he is going to manufacture?”
Rustem Khamitov also mentioned the choice of Ufa as the site for the first international forum “Big Chemistry” was quite natural.
“We need such site exactly in Bashkortostan” – he said – “Perhaps, there are other deserving cities and territories with many chemical productions, working there, but one should remember that Bashkortostan was the pioneer in Russian and Soviet chemistry and it is clear that nobody will forget this priority”.
