More facts of malicious insults over children in families are uncovered in Bashkortostan than in other regions

313 crimes, connected with cruel treatment of children in families, have been registered in Bashkortostan in 2010 and this is the maximal index for Russia. For comparison: the number of similar crimes, registered in Tatarstan and Nizhniy Novgorod region, comparable with our Republic by population, is several times less, as the deputy head of the police department for juvenile affairs under the Ministry of internal affairs in RB Andre Shitov reported.

“Taking the circumstance that the facts of violence in families are more often of the latent character and that only a small part of such crimes is uncovered into account, this figure can be easily multiplied ten and even twenty times” – he said – “As a rule children are ashamed to go out and say their parents beat them. They believe that if parents punish them, they are really guilty of something”.

That fact that Bashkortostan becomes the leader by the number of uncovered malicious insults in families doesn’t mean our families have more violence than in other regions, as M-r Shitov believes. This problem is peculiar to the whole country but here more such crimes are uncovered.

One of the main problems in bringing the parents to account for cruel treatment of children is that there is no exact understanding when such treatment can be considered really cruel.

“In some towns and regions the evident presence of bodily injures is necessary in order to bring the parents to account for violence” – Andre Shitov reported – “But if a child is deprived of food, clothes and medical services, it means cruel treatment too but unfortunately such facts aren’t always interpreted in such way”.
