April 11 is the international day of liberation of prisoners of Nazi concentration camps

The international day of liberation of prisoners of Nazi concentration camps is celebrated today. The prisoners of Buchenwald (the largest concentration camp) have excited the international rebellion against Nazis on April 11, 1945. When the US troops entered the camp, the insurgents had already controlled the camp’s territory. Since then the 11th of April has been approved by the UN as the data when the whole world celebrates the international day of liberation of prisoners of Nazi concentration camps.
In a whole more than 14 thousand concentration camps, prisons and ghettos were functioning on the territory of Germany and the occupied countries, where more than 20 million people from 30 countries were kept. 12 million haven’t reached the liberation, including about two million children. About five million Soviet citizens have perished in the camps. The international tribunal in Hague has confessed in 1946 that the imprisonment of peaceful foreign citizens as well as the involuntary use of their labor in the interests of Germany is not just a war crime but the crime against the whole mankind.
The former Soviet prisoners of the fascist camps have survived new severest trials on their motherland. The majority of them have passed though the People’s Commissariat of Internal Affairs filtration camps.
The former prisoners live in many regions of Russia now. About 300 people live on the territory of Bashkiria – people with disabilities and those, who were thrown to the camps, still being minors.
