Russian regional authorities will have to become greener

The Government of Russia begins estimating the efficiency of regional authority in sphere of wild-life conservation. Earlier the President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev has ordered the regional governors to prepare the reports about ecological situation on their territories every year, the Ministry of natural resources and ecology RF reported.

The list of the indices for estimation of the efficiency of Russian executive power bodies’ activity includes the chapter “Preservation of environment” and the Chairman of Russian Government Vladimir Putin signed the corresponding decree, said in the Ministry’s message.

The experts welcome the “green turning” of the White House. For the last time such ideas were discussed in 1989. The formal responsibility for preservation of the environment is imposed on the authority as a duty for the first time. The reports of the regions are considered at the governmental gatherings in Moscow every year and 20 best regions are encouraged with the prize money at the rate of 1-2 billion rubles per year.
