Rustem Khamitov: “I’m not going to rename the office of the head of the Republic”

The post of the President RB will be preserved in Bashkiria, the President RB Rustem Khamitov told in his interview to the internet-portal www.gazeta.ru. He doesn’t intend to rename the office of the head of the Republic.

“This is not a problem of paramount importance for me” – he said – “First, this is the competence of the State Council-Kurultay-RB and, second, such question can’t be solved only by me alone, since the mentality of my nation, living on the territory of Bashkiria, presumes at least a preliminary discussion of this situation. I know the results of the public poll and that the votes are divided fifty-fifty. I think we needn’t hurry up in this case since people have to swallow this information first. If the federal law, unifying the names of the heads of Russian regions is approved, our Republic will obey it but, as I repeat, there is no need for us to initiate this change self-dependently”.
