Working meeting with Karl Kulessa

On June 25 in the House of Republic Murtaza Rakhimov, the President of Bashkortostan Republic held a working meeting with the representative of the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) in the Russian Federation Karl Kulessa. The representative of UNFPA has arrived in Ufa for participation in the work of the All-Russia seminar «Demographic development of Russia and its regions», spent within the framework of the 15 anniversary from the date of acceptance of the Cairo program for population activities.

During the meeting, issues concerning social and demographic development of Bashkortostan were discussed. The parties have considered mechanisms of the state support and the further development of a family institute as the major factor promoting the decision of demographic problems in the society.

The president of Bashkortostan Murtaza Rakhimov said about the measures taken in the republic for public health care, birth rate increase, death rate decrease, support of large families. According to the head of the republic, active work on support of the status of mothers is conducted in Bashkortostan.

— Last years we have done much for protection of large families, assistance to parents in their hard work on bringing up children. For this purpose, we have a number of additional benefits and grants which are not available till now in many other regions of Russia, — Murtaza Rakhimov marked.

At the same time, according to the President of republic there are factors negatively influencing the general demographic situation in the society, that is drug addiction and alcoholism. Murtaza Rakhimov considers that only having united the general efforts of the state and community it is possible to resist to the given processes and to lower death rate in the country.

Karl Kulessa, the UNFPA representative underlined that in Bashkortostan, comparing with other subjects of Russia, problems of the birth rate growth are solved much better.

— You have a clear strategy in solving all these problems, there are progress factors, there is a growth of quantity of children in families, — Karl Kulessa marked.

Sergey Lavrentev, the counsellor of state at the President of Bashkortostan Republic, Saliya Murzabaeva, the deputy of the State Duma of Russia, Rim Valiahmetov, and the director of Institute of Politico-Social and Juridic Research AN RB also took part in the working meeting.
