State Duma celebrates birthday

The Russian State Duma is celebrating its birthday today. 104 years ago on April 27, 1906, the first State Duma of Russia had started working. The corresponding manifest about its establishment was signed by Nikolai the II in October, 1905.

The first State Duma existed just 72 days and managed to hold just one session. Its staff included the representatives of different political parties. Cadets were the most numerous party – 179 deputies. The October party consisted of 16 deputies and the number of social-democrats was 18. There were 63 representatives of so-called national minorities and 105 independent delegates.

For 72 days of its activity the first Russian Duma had received 391 interpellations about illegal actions of the Government. As a result it had been dissolved by the tsar and remained in the history as “The Duma of the people’s wrath”.
