The Good Friday

Orthodox Christians are marking the Good Friday today and this day is traditionally devoted to the memories about the death of Jesus Christ, taking of his body down from the cross and his burial. There are no liturgies in the churches this day and the evensong is read at 3 o’clock at noon – it is considered the punishment of Jesus Christ had taken place exactly that time. During the evensong the believers stand with the alight candles, thereby demonstrating their love to Christ and that the glory and the greatness haven’t left him even before the death.
The Good Friday is considered the day of the severest lent when any food is strictly prohibited completely. In 2010 the Good Friday in the Christian world coincides with the Holy Friday for Catholics and Lutherans, which has the same meaning in all trends of Christianity.
