Towards Bashkir language

The executive committee of the World Bashkir Kurultay (Congress) has held the conference, devoted to the problems of Bashkir language and lingual associations under the conditions of a modern city. The action was dated to the International Native Language Day and organized by the youth council under the executive committee of the World Bashkir Congress and by the club of Bashkir language and literature lovers “TUGAN TEL”.

It is evident that the removal of regional component fr om the education system entailed plenty of problems, concerned with the study of national languages. and the participants of the conference marked that the tendency of the loss of Bashkir language by its carriers was recently observed. The Bashkir language is included into the list of dying world languages. It was stated at the conference that under the terms of urbanization those young people, who earlier studied Bashkir language at schools, began to communicate between themselves not in the Bashkir language after a certain period of time. In this case the presence of two state languages begins to play the negative role and the native Bashkir language becomes as if the additional one.

The Bashkir activists from the city of Magnitogorsk established the fact that these negative after-effects were especially strong in their city. Besides, no Bashkir class functions in Magnitogorsk for today though the share of Bashkirs in the ethnic staff of its population is rather high. But it is explained not by the reluctance of local authority to open Bashkir classes but by the passivity of the Bashkir population itself. One of the conference’s decisions was to hold the long-term action “I speak Bashkir” like in Tatarstan, Mari-Al and Chuvashia. The logotypes of the action will be stuck on the doors of the shops, institutions and the state structures, wh ere local population can be served in Bashkir language. From one side the action will popularize the Bashkir language and from the other side it will help to realize the law about state languages RB in a full measure. In the nearest future the executive committee of the World Bashkir Congress intends to announce the competition for the best sketch of the action’s logo.
