President RB Murtaza Rakhimov commented on the TV-program”Talking to Vladimir Putin: continuation”, held on December 3, 2009:

“One may agree with the estimation of the general situation in the country by the Chairman of Russian Government. Unlike the crisis 1998, people feel no panic now and the general situation is quite stable. Preservation of the social standards we’ve reached during the previous years plays paramount role in it. The majority of Russian population has the assurance we are able to overcome these hard times and in the nearest future Russian economics as well as the level of life will start growing. The fact that birth rate doesn’t fall and goes on growing means we are looking at our future with optimism, feeling the same optimism for our children.

The situation in Bashkortostan proves it and it is not accidentally that Russian Ministry of regional development admits our Republic is found in the list of 14 Russian regions, where the anti-crisis arrangements are the most successful.

We have to pay attention to the character of the questions: Russians worry about problems in housing-communal services sphere, social and pension provision, about prospects in stable functioning of Russian enterprises and employment. There is the anxiety but there is no opposition to the course, followed by the Government. People agree concerning the political course and they aren’t interested in political ideologies, thinking about the ways to raise the level of their life – this is the key ideology of Russians today”.
