Scammers have come up with "pre-investigation check of workplace" for Russians

Tatyana Aksyutina

Pre-investigation checks do exist, and scammers cleverly use plausible "screens" to scare people and force them into making a mistake.

As the "Cyber Police" reports, a mass mailing of letters demanding that a "pre-investigation check of the workplace" be undergone occurred in several large Russian organizations. They contained resolutions and non-disclosure requirements, as well as questionnaires covering the work setup, actions on specific dates, remote access programs, and personal data. Victims were also required to sign a consent for a "technical examination." Next, they received a program that was required to be installed on their computer and, in fact, a "trojan" that infiltrated the corporate network to block it, then demanded a ransom.
