After noticing the limping animal, they abandoned their fishing and carried out a full-scale rescue operation.
Fishermen who had gone to the Belaya River in the Ishimbaysky District spotted a marten on the ice with a trap on its paw. The men decided to save it: when the animal climbed a tree, they covered it with a jacket and caught it.
They immediately reported the find to the Ministry of Ecology, which sent a specialist to the site. The specialist arrived and removed the trap. Since the marten was exhausted but had a good chance of recovery, it was decided to transfer it to the Pin and Poof Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Ufa, the agency said. The fisherman who caught the marten was injured and received medical care at a trauma clinic.
The head of the center, Dmitry Strelnikov, thanked everyone for rescuing the marten and reported that the animal had been placed in quarantine.
