Scammers have been tricking a pensioner out of large sums for two years, swindling him out of 5.5 million rubles. As reported by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Bashkortostan, in January last year, an 82-year-old resident of Ufa received an unexpected letter by e-mail. In the message, an "employee" of a catalog of one of the construction companies assured the man that he had become the owner of an impressive prize - more than 3 million rubles. But to receive this unexpected win, the man must complete several tasks. They included solving puzzles such as riddles, rebuses, and scanwords. The woman strongly recommended sending his answers by mail, promising this would be part of receiving money. However, the pensioner also had to make an advance payment to participate in this game.
Every few months, he received new tasks, which he eagerly answered. As initially agreed, he sent the answers by mail. In addition, so as not to miss the chance to receive a prize, he transferred prepayments at bank branches to the specified "special" accounts. Gradually, the amount the scammers received from the pensioner increased to 5.5 million rubles. Earlier, residents of Bashkiria were warned about a new scammer scheme called "Lottery Win."
