Bashkiria resident died due to incorrect diagnosis made by paramedic

UFA, 26 June 2019. /Bashinform News Agency/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/.
The Supreme Court of Bashkortostan, on the suit of the Oktyabrsky City Prosecutor’s Office, compelled the medical institution to pay half a million rubles of compensation for moral damage for the patient’s death.
According to the press service of the Prosecutor’s Office RB, at night last December, a 64-year-old citizen called an ambulance. He complained of acute pain in the region of the heart. A paramedic who arrived at the call did not reveal an acute cardiac pathology in the elderly man; he decided that the patient had recrudescence of pancreatitis. The patient was not hospitalized but left at home.
A few hours later, the man again addressed to doctors because of feeling unwell. He was taken immediately to intensive care, where he died from myocardial infarction.
The examination confirmed the fact of an incorrect diagnosis.
“The city prosecutor filed a lawsuit seeking compensation for moral damages in favor of the relatives of the deceased. The court of first instance dismissed the claim. Meanwhile, the appeals instance upheld the position of the prosecutor’s office,” the department explained.
As reported by the Bashinform News Agency, the other day in the Ufa region the paramedic refused to provide medical care to a man with a stroke attack. The Investigative Committee, the Prosecutor's Office, and the Ministry of Health of Bashkiria are investigating this fact.
