Elimination of air pollution source in Sibay will take another 50 days: mayor

The operation on flooding the quarry in Sibay, where oxidative burning of mining dumps is going on, will last approximately 40 days, another 10 days is necessary for its preparation. The mayor of the city Rustem Afzalov stated that at a meeting of the administration with the residents on January 23.

The operation will be conducted by the Sibay branch of Uchalinsky Mining Plant (UGOK). It is planned to flood partially the mines of the quarry and the quarry itself.

Recall that since November of last year, a high-alert regime is in effect in Sibay due to the oxidation of ore in an unexploited copper ore mine at the local UGOK (part of the UMMC holding), a strong air pollution occurred.
