Environmental accident in Bashkortostan: soil pollution occurred due to oil pipeline breakage

An environmental accident in Bashkiria occurred last week. This was announced at a briefing session in the government of the republic by the Chairman of the State Committee RB for Emergency Situations Farit Gumerov.

According to him, on December 21, due to the depressurization of the oil pipeline in the Tuymazy District, oil pollution of the soil occurred in the area of 45 square meters. The emergency recovery team of “Transneft Ural” JSC liquidated the pollution.

The accident occurred on the main pipeline Tuimazy-Ufa-1 near the settlement of Tyupkildy.

“The oil seep was detected on the night of December 20-21. The personnel of the emergency response section of the Transneft-Ural company promptly arrived at the scene. Employees of the company stopped the seep of oil. The elimination of the incident involved 42 people and 11 units of equipment. The seep volume amounted to 9 cubic meters. The ongoing environmental monitoring is conducted at the scene. There is no possibility of oil getting into water reservoirs. The situation is not hazardous for the population and the environment and will not affect consumers. The causes of the incident are under investigation", commented on the company representatives.

The environmental emergency came to the attention of Rufina Shagapova, deputy chairman of the Bashkortostan State Assembly Committee for Agrarian Issues, Ecology and Nature Management. The deputy wrote about the incident on her page on the social network, having posted a video from the scene.

According to the press service of the republican Emergencies Ministry, oil was pumped out and polluted soil was removed. Oil did not reach the water reservoirs. On December 22, all leak repair works were completed.
