Russian Federal Security Service is preparing to repel foreign cyber-attacks to destabilize country's financial system
UFA, 2 December 2016. /Bashinform News Agency, Alim Faizov/. The Russian Federal Security Service received information about preparing by the foreign intelligence services large-scale cyber-attacks in the period from December 5, 2016 in order to destabilize the financial system of the Russian Federation, including the activities of a number of major Russian banks.
As a result of search operations it was found out that the server capacity and command and control centres for cyber-attacks were located in the Netherlands and owned by Ukrainian BlazingFast hosting company.
Cyber-attacks are planned to be accompanied with mass provocative SMS and publications sending in social networks (blogs) in relation to the crisis of credit and financial system in Russia, bankruptcy and revocation of licenses of a number of federal and regional leading banks. The campaign is aimed at several dozen Russian cities.
As reported on the website of the FSB RF, the department "implements necessary measures to neutralize economic and information security threats to the Russian Federation, and documentation of the impending campaign".
