Bashkortostan court commuted a sentence to the minivan driver, in which seven passengers were killed

UFA, 1 October 2015. /Bashinform News Agency, Olga Murtazina/. The Bashkortostan Supreme Court commuted a sentence of the 29-year-old driver from Sibay convicted in death of seven passengers. On March 20th, 2014, he drove them to Ufa on his private minibus Volkswagen Caravelle.

In the territory of the Arkhangelsk region the minivan drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a Mercedes Benz truck going from Magnitogorsk. The crash killed all passengers - six women and one man. The investigation concluded that the driver fell asleep at the wheel.

In June 2015 the court sentenced him to six years and 11 months' imprisonment in a penal colony. As a result of consideration of the convicted person appeal, the Supreme Court RB reduced the sentence by five months, the Republican Prosecutor's Office reports. Regarding non-pecuniary damage award the verdict was not changed - the driver has to pay each victim by 1 million rubles. The relatives of the six victims filed a suit, the Prosecutor's Office representatives explain.
