Central Bank proposes banning "prank bank" banknotes
And introducing administrative fines for the use of such "banknote-like items."
The Central Bank of Russia has proposed banning the production and sale of items resembling Russian currency. The initiative is part of efforts to protect the integrity of cash circulation. The proposal has been submitted for consideration to relevant authorities, according to a Bank of Russia document outlining prospects for the development of the cash circulation market for 2026–2030.
Experts note that such "toy" money is freely sold on online marketplaces and is actively used by fraudsters to deceive citizens.
The same section of the document states that in 2026–2028, the banknotes with denominations of 500, 50, and 10 rubles are planned to be modernized. They will be issued with an updated design and enhanced security features.
