Legislators propose introducing regional mortgage rates in Russia
According to the principle of social justice, interest rates should not be the same for everyone. The State Duma reported that the Russian President supported this proposal; this issue is currently being discussed in the government.
Earlier, at the "government hour" on demographic policy, State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin proposed introducing a differentiated mortgage rate depending on the region of residence and the number of children in the family.
At the moment, the mortgage rate is "flat" and does not take into account the income level of citizens in the regions.
"I think that shortly we will reach a differentiated level of mortgage interest rates: in Moscow, there should be one, and in Saratov, it should be proportionate to the average salary in the Saratov region, which is 2.5 times lower than in Moscow. Then there will be social justice," the State Duma Chairman emphasized.
A differentiated rate was already introduced in 2006; however, at that time, it was set not based on the average salary in the region, but on the initial payment amount and the term length.
