Price growth in Bashkiria slowed for the first time since October 2024. According to the National Bank, in April, annual inflation in the republic fell from 9.9% to 9.6%. Overall price growth in the region is still lower than the Russian average (10.2%).
In April, prices in Bashkortostan rose by 0.2%, while in March, they increased by 0.5%. The slowdown was mainly due to a decrease in demand for durable goods.
Imports became slightly cheaper as a result of the ruble's strengthening. This became more noticeable in the prices of telephones, television and radio goods, computers, household appliances, and electronics.
Vacations abroad also became cheaper. The strengthening of the ruble affected the cost of trips to the UAE, Egypt, countries of Southeast Asia, and the Caucasus.
However, vacations in the republic have become more expensive due to the unusually warm spring, as demand for vouchers to local holiday homes and sanatoriums has shifted from May to April.
As for food, the most noticeable increase was in prices for tea, coffee, and cocoa, due to a poor harvest of raw materials in producing countries and a reduction in their supply on the world market. Cheese has become more expensive due to increased production costs. At the same time, eggs, pasta, some cereals, and butter have become cheaper — domestic producers have increased their production.
National Bank experts note that, in general, prices are growing above the target. “A more restrained growth in demand is needed for a sustainable reduction in inflation. Therefore, the Bank of Russia will continue to keep the key rate high for as long as it takes to return inflation to the target in 2026,” economist Almaz Gabdullin commented.
