The Institute of Economics and Transport Development has considered possible options for including the million-plus cities of the Kuibyshev Railway (KbshZhD)—Samara and Ufa—in the Program for organizing high-speed rail service in the Russian Federation until 2036. The KbshZhD management announced this during a press conference.
The project involves operating long-range, high-speed night, and medium-range daytime routes. The estimated total population in the area of the line is 12 million people. The main problem is that the Ufa—Samara—Saratov—Volgograd—Likhaya line will require the creation of a dedicated route for high-speed passenger traffic with a maximum speed of 160 km/h on the section from Ufa to Volgograd.
