Bashkiria to produce 7 times more sugar than needed
The Bashkiria Ministry of Agriculture predicts that sugar production from the abundant new beet harvest will be seven times higher than the republic's needs. Acting Deputy Prime Minister—Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Bashkiria Ilshat Fazrakhmanov announced this at an operational government meeting, answering a question from the Head of Bashkiria Radiy Khabirov about whether the region will have its sugar.
According to the head of the Bashkiria agro-industrial complex, the root crop harvest is expected to be a record-breaking 2.4 million tons. This is so much that sugar factories will process this mass until April, whereas processing usually ends in January-February. "This has never happened before," the head of the Ministry of Agriculture noted.
Currently, 30% of the area with sugar beets (17 thousand hectares) has been harvested. 770 thousand tons of root crops were dug up with an average yield of 45 tons/ha (last year – 35.4 tons/ha). Sugar content is high – 15-16%.
