This year, Bashkiria plans to begin major repairs on 23 kilometers of the R-240 Ufa-Orenburg highway, from the 112th kilometer bypassing Sterlitamak to the Sterlibashevsky turn. We are discussing expanding the existing road from two to four lanes to increase its capacity and improve traffic safety. The repair schedule provides for work to be carried out in 2024-2026.
The new road project will appear thanks to the personal involvement of the Head of the region, Radiy Khabirov, in this issue, said the head of the Federal Road Agency, Roman Novikov, during a conversation with a correspondent of the Bashinform news agency.
The head of Bashkortostan told the correspondent of the Bashinform News Agency that negotiations on the major repairs of this section of the Ufa-Orenburg highway had been going on for two years. Head of the Federal State Institution "Priuralye" Federal Road Administration Denis Abramov reported that today, the R-240 Ufa-Orenburg highway in this section has the II category with one traffic lane in each direction, 3.75 m wide, which significantly increases the risk of traffic accidents.
This section's maximum daily traffic intensity is 17,512 vehicles per day and is in "overload" mode. Understandably, motorists complained about insufficient traffic lanes, which reduces maneuverability and increases the risk of accidents. There were also complaints about the lack of lighting and the high accident rate.
Over the 12 months of 2023, 16 accidents occurred in this section; one person died, and 22 were injured. According to the results of 7 months of 2024, 6 accidents were registered, including one death and 10 injuries. According to Denis Abramov, the new 4-lane highway will allow safe left turns, provide free passage for motor vehicles bypassing Sterlitamak, and restore and install missing electric lighting. The new section will also have regulated pedestrian crossings, transition, and speed lanes at the junctions with several populated areas.
The cost of major repairs to this section of the R-240 highway is estimated at 4.2 billion rubles.
