Large-capacity trolleybuses will begin to be assembled in Ufa

The Telegram channel “Bus and all” (https://t.me/busandall) reports that the first set for the MAZ-216 trolleybus has been sent to Ufa. Although this machine was announced in 2022, it is only now being constructed.

Following an auction, the Ufa Tram and Trolleybus Plant signed a contract to supply Ufa with 10 new trolleybuses of its own production. The delivery cost will be 341 million rubles or 34 million per unit. This information is posted on the government procurement website.

According to the competition documentation, trolleybuses must have a low floor and a capacity of at least 90 passengers. The transport must have a climate control system, GLONASS, and the body color must be mint green.

Trolleybuses must have a one-and-a-half-year warranty (or up to 150 thousand kilometers).

As Bashinform News Agency reported, a trolleybus may be the most promising type of public electric transport for Ufa. Modern models have the function of increased autonomous operation without being tied to the contact network. It is not inferior to the tram in terms of environmental friendliness, speed, and real carrying capacity and costs an order of magnitude cheaper. The main thing is that the trolleybus can use public roads, giving it greater flexibility in creating routes and traffic reliability comparable to a bus.
