Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin made a momentous announcement during the government body's annual report in the State Duma. He revealed that by the end of 2023, the unemployment rate in the country had been successfully halved, a significant achievement for the nation.
As the Prime Minister pointed out, this figure was a mere 3%, significantly lower than the unemployment rate in the Eurozone, which is more than twice as high, showcasing Russia's economic stability in comparison.
Starting in 2022, historic lows in unemployment have been recorded in Bashkiria. As the head of the regional Ministry of Labor, Lenara Ivanova, said, now there are, on average, four vacancies per applicant in the republic; in manufacturing and mechanical engineering, there are 8 vacancies, and in some highly specialized enterprises, this figure reaches 13 vacancies per person.
“On the one hand, this is positive. But at the same time, the regional labor market, especially the industrial sector, is experiencing a colossal shortage of personnel. If there are four vacancies per unemployed person in the republic, then in the industrial sector, the ratio is 1 to 8. Almost 90% of jobs are waiting for specialists in blue-collar professions. Our main measures are training workers at the request of employers, subsidized hiring, support for employers in temporary employment and organizing public works, and career guidance events for young people. These activities will continue with federal support,” Ivanova commented.
