How inflation changed in Bashkiria in January

Food inflation was 7.85% - 0.1% less than in December and 4.15% more than in September.

Experts attribute the downward shift in the indicator to the fact that the authorities have zeroed out customs duties on imported eggs and poultry meat since the beginning of the year; there has been an increase in these products, and accordingly, demand has stabilized, and prices have risen.

Volatile prices for fruits and vegetables play a significant role in food inflation - they rise significantly in winter and decrease noticeably in summer. Thus, in January, the “contribution” of fruit and vegetable products to inflation amounted to 21.3%, and its share has been decreasing progressively since September when it was 24%.

In non-food inflation, price growth by the end of the year and the beginning of the current year slowed down and amounted to 7.07% - 0.4% higher than in December and 3.7% higher than in September.

The main reason for the acceleration of price growth is that the demand for some expensive goods is higher than the supply. First of all, these are cars and used foreign cars, which have come to the fore due to the difficulties in obtaining new cars and have become more expensive. Gasoline prices, both wholesale and retail, increased due to production cuts. High demand for furniture allowed manufacturers to raise prices for their products.

The services sector showed the highest inflation rate in November 2023 (8.4%); in December, it decreased to 5.6%, and in January, it was 5.9%. The most significant contribution to the indicator comes from tourism, passenger transportation, and the real estate market. In January, air carriers' costs for fleet maintenance and fuel increased. At the same time, the volume of subsidies to airlines for the transportation of passengers has decreased, and the demand for flights within the country has increased. Accordingly, air tickets have become more expensive.

Total annual inflation in the region amounted to 7.05% in January. The figure increased by 0.05% compared to September 2023 - by 2.53% compared to December.

In the Volga Federal District, the annual inflation rate in January was 7.2%, and in Russia, it was 7.4%.
