21 kopecks will increase Platon system tariff from February 1

From February 1, the tariff of the Platon system will be indexed by 21 kopecks, the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation was informed. The system collects payments for the passage of trucks with a maximum weight of over 12 tons on federal highways. As a result, the tariff will be 3 rubles and 5 kopecks per 1 km.

Heavy trucks affect the condition of roads more than other vehicles. Payments collected by Platon are sent to the Federal Road Fund (FRF) and used for repairs.

“The impact of indexation on the final cost of transported goods is extremely insignificant. For example, a 20-ton truck transports sunflower oil (20 thousand one-liter bottles) over a distance of 1,079 km along the Rostov-on-Don - Moscow route. Considering the tariff indexation, the increase in transportation cost will be 227 rubles. This, in turn, may affect the cost of one bottle of oil in a store by 1 kopeck,” the ministry said. If the tariff is not increased this year, the FRF will not receive 4 billion rubles, which could be used to repair 200 km of roads.

According to the department, more than 820 thousand cargo carriers and more than 1.8 million heavy trucks are registered in the state system. Over the entire period of Platon’s operation since 2015, the FRF received 250 billion rubles. In 2023, it will be 49 billion rubles; about 1.1 thousand km of roads in Russian regions will be repaired with these funds.
