New hydrogen production technology creation will be supported by Russian government

The State will compensate scientific organizations, enterprises, and companies for up to 70% of the costs of developing technologies for the production, transportation, and storage of hydrogen, which will then be used in the implementation of large projects in the field of hydrogen energy. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed the decree with the rules for providing subsidies.

“The funds will be allocated to organizations that have passed the competitive selection process of the Ministry of Energy. They can be used to pay employees directly involved in developing new technologies, material costs associated with such research, purchasing Russian-made raw materials, and creating pilot batches of products. The subsidy can be provided for up to three years,” explained the Cabinet of Ministers press service.

In 2023–2024, funds for more than 1.3 billion rubles have been reserved in the federal budget to pay subsidies. The work is being carried out within the framework of the national project “Clean Energy” of the state program “Scientific and Technological Development of the Russian Federation” and another state program - “Energy Development”.

Hydrogen energy is considered promising and environmentally friendly. Almost 70% of hydrogen production now comes from oil and gas processing. In particular, hydrogen plants operate in Bashkiria at the Ufa oil refineries and Salavat. As Bashinform News Agency reported, last year, fines of 220 thousands were issued for emissions into the atmosphere, including from a hydrogen production plant.
