The 2024 harvest is planned to sow almost twice as many winter crops. Ilshat Fazrakhmanov, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Agriculture of Bashkiria, spoke about the need for this at an operational government meeting. He noted that the yield of winter cereals is much higher than that of spring crops.
“A third of the area has been removed. Grains and legumes have been harvested by almost 40%, and 1.48 million tons of excellent quality grain have been put into bins. The leaders are Sterlitamaksky, Aurgazinsky, Karmaskalinsky, Davlekanovsky, Ilishevsky, and Chishminsky districts.
Harvesting of winter crops has been completed in 93% of the area. Harvesting of spring crops was not started only in the Beloretsky and Burzyansky regions. The yield, unfortunately, is not very high - 1.87 t/ha. It is the same with oilseeds,” the minister said. At the same time, the yield of winter cereals this year averages 2.6 t/ha.
“We need to change our strategy. Since it has been a dry year for many years, we must rely on winter crops. According to science, increasing the area of winter crops to 600,000 hectares is necessary. The volume of winter crops is much larger than that of spring crops. Therefore, we made a plan for each district,” said the head of the Bashkir agro-industrial complex.
Radiy Khabirov instructed to include this topic for a meeting with the heads of municipalities.
As Bashinform News Agency reported, 318.9 thousand hectares of winter crops were sown for the 2023 harvest, 23.9 thousand hectares more than in the fall of 2021. Mostly, these are winter wheat (188.5 thousand ha) and winter rye (122.4 thousand ha).
