Law for real estate registration data protection from cyberattacks is adopted

The State Duma adopted a law protecting real estate registration data from cyberattacks.

According to the new law, the list of subjects of critical information infrastructure will be supplemented by the owners of systems and networks operating in the state registration of rights to real estate and transactions with it. We are talking about protecting information systems, networks, and control systems.

One of the authors, the head of the State Duma Security Committee, Vasily Piskarev, noted that new rules are being introduced to ensure the security of registration data in real estate "to protect them from hacker attacks and theft."

“One can only speculate about the consequences of hackers’ attempts to break into databases and, for example, change data on the owners of real estate or simply steal this information for fraudulent purposes,” the politician said.

Nikita Chaplin, a member of the Committee on Budget and Taxes, emphasized that now it is essential to pay special attention to the protection against theft of registration data in the field of real estate, especially when it comes to the critical information infrastructure of the Russian Federation. At the same time, he noted that the Russian special services successfully repelled the attacks. The deputy also proposed to spread the practice that United Russia used in the preliminary voting (the party attracted "white hackers" to identify gaps in the system). “I think that now it’s worth asking for help from domestic leading IT specialists to check all important systems “for strength”, he said.
