Ban on sale of vapes to children introduced in Bashkiria will be valid throughout Russia

The law banning the sale of non-tobacco smoking products to children was introduced in Bashkiria in the fall of 2019. A similar ban will work throughout the country - the State Duma adopted amendments prohibiting the sale of electronic cigarettes and other smoking devices to minors.

“I am glad that the republic’s experience was in demand and is now being extrapolated to Russia. Due to their age and inexperience, children cannot realize how vaping harms their health. But the composition of vaping mixtures raises serious concerns. This is a real poison, and its use is fraught with serious problems. Yes, smoking contributes to forming a bad habit, especially since vaping has become part of the youth subculture. Often, teenagers from various devices with steam subsequently switch to regular cigarettes. The mechanical habit of smoking turns into a physiological dependence, which is already difficult to overcome,” commented Konstantin Tolkachev, Chairman of the Kurultai.

He noted that these restrictions should be accompanied by promoting a healthy lifestyle and creating conditions for sports. “Prohibitions are not a panacea. Its goal is not to make smoking devices impossible to buy but to make them unfashionable and irrelevant. We are consistently moving in this direction,” the speaker of the Bashkir parliament emphasized.
