French businessmen, including the international retailers Auchan, Decathlon, and Leroy Merlin operating in Bashkiria, must stay in Russia, Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux, head of the Union of French Entrepreneurs, said on BFM TV.
According to him, about 160,000 people work in French companies present in Russia.
“They have to eat, get paid. Our responsibility as an employer is to pay wages,” Roux de Bézieux stressed.
He explained that the business followed the recommendations of the French government, which asked not to close companies. So, Auchan is still open both in Russia and in Ukraine, Roux de Bézieux said.
