Visa will also comply with anti-Russian sanctions

The international payment system Visa expressed its readiness to comply with anti-Russian sanctions. "Visa is taking prompt action to enforce applicable sanctions and stands ready to comply with additional sanctions that may be imposed," the company said in a release.

A little earlier, Mastercard supported the sanctions by blocking access to the payment system for several Russian banks. The US sanctions list includes Gazprombank, Alfa-Bank, Sberbank, Otkrytie Bank, Sovcombank, VTB, Russian Agricultural Bank, Credit Bank of Moscow, and Novicombank.

Russian banks that have fallen under "blocking" sanctions will not be able to issue new Visa, and Mastercard cards; already issued cards will continue to work within Russia, RIA Novosti reported.

Visa and Mastercard will stop working abroad and in foreign online stores. At the same time, they will continue to work in Russia since the National Payment Card System processes all card transactions within the country.

In addition, operations using Apple Pay, Google Pay will not be available. All payment transactions for purchases and services, including online stores, are available with a bank card - contact or contactless.
