Food inflation accelerated to 11.6% in Bashkiria

The rapid depletion of stocks from last year's low crop of cabbage and carrots has led to a significant increase in prices for these sought-after vegetables included in the "borscht set".

Since the costs of greenhouse producers grew due to the rise in the cost of energy resources, fertilizers, equipment, and packaging, buyers eventually had to pay for it. Besides, experts say that the growth in greenhouse vegetable prices was affected by the cost of hiring seasonal workers recruited from among local residents instead of migrant workers who left due to the pandemic.

Also, due to a shortage of workers, greenhouse farms failed to grow the planned volumes of vegetables - this also affected the rise in prices for cucumbers and tomatoes.

The prices of animal products have risen. Due to the shortage of food supply and vitamin complexes, the number of cattle and milk yields decreased - milk and beef rose in price. At the same time, the transfer into prices of the increased costs of processors led to an increase in the growth rate of prices for sausages, cheeses, butter, and dairy products.

The rise in the cost of food could not but affect public catering.

Inflation had a minor effect on poultry products: amid an improvement in the epizootic situation, poultry farms were able to increase production and the supply of chicken meat and eggs.

In January, annual inflation in Bashkiria accelerated to 9.37%; this figure is higher than in the Volga Federal District (9.11%) and in Russia as a whole (8.73%).
