Bashkiria to provide state support to producers of "eco" agricultural products

Deputies of the State Assembly of Bashkortostan propose to expand the list of main areas that can be provided with state support for agricultural production at the expense of the republican budget. In particular, this list will include the production of agricultural products and foodstuffs with improved characteristics.

 State support includes measures to increase the availability of credit resources, risk insurance, financial assistance in carrying out activities to improve soil fertility.

According to the Speaker of the Parliament, Konstantin Tolkachev, "improved characteristics" involve the production of only high-quality raw materials and "eco" technologies, a ban on the use of genetic engineering methods, ionizing radiation. Special requirements are also placed on packaging: it must be made from recyclable or biodegradable materials.

"The development of an "eco" direction will help us form a regional brand based on the high quality and environmental friendliness of Bashkortostan products, monetize the fundamental advantages of our agricultural production: a complete ban on the use of genetically modified organisms, a low level of heavy metals in mineral fertilizers, etc.," Konstantin Tolkachev said. "Government support for environmentally friendly agricultural producers will help improve the quality of products on our shelves and will have a positive effect on public health."

 The Chairman of the State Assembly noted that if the deputies approve the bill, the provision on state support for food producers with improved characteristics will come into force on March 1. At the same time, the Federal Law "On Agricultural Products, Raw Materials and Food with Improved Characteristics" will come into force, which establishes the legal framework for activities related to the production, storage, transportation, and sale of such products.
