Personal investment accounts number increased by 20 thousand in Bashkiria in January - June

Residents of Bashkiria have opened more than 20 thousand personal investment accounts over the past six months, the National Bank of the Republic of Bashkortostan reported. The activity of private investors has slightly decreased compared to January - June last year, which became a record in terms of growth in the number of new players on the stock market. As of July 1, the number of republican personal investment accounts exceeded 133 thousand, according to the Moscow Exchange. In terms of their number, the region remains in first place in the Volga Federal District and fifth in Russia.

The growing interest of citizens in personal investment accounts is primarily due to a decrease in interest rates on bank deposits, improvement of online services for opening and maintaining an account, and the ability to receive a tax deduction.

"The growth of investment activity of the residents of the region is a positive trend. At the same time, there are certain risks in the private investment market," Sergey Korovin, Deputy Governing Manager of the National Bank of Bashkiria, said.

According to the Moscow Exchange, more than 90% of personal investment accounts fall on brokerage accounts, with the help of which investors independently manage their assets.

A law developed with the participation of the Bank of Russia was adopted to protect the rights of unqualified investors, which provides for testing newcomers for their knowledge of complex financial products before purchasing them. The innovation will come into force on October 1, 2021. Until that time, the regulator recommends brokers and managers not to sell complex investment instruments to new investors.
