Import-substituting production of hydrocracking catalyst is launched in Sterlitamak

Experts at Sterlitamak RN-kat, a subsidiary of Bashneft (part of Rosneft), have developed a technology to produce a hydrocracking catalyst.

The catalyst will be supplied to the Ufa oil refining complex of Bashneft and in the future to other Rosneft enterprises. The commercial production of the new catalyst is planned to be launched already in 2021.

According to experts, this will increase the production of high-quality Euro-5 motor fuels from vacuum gas oil, an oil refining product.

Besides, the production of a new hydrocracking catalyst based on RN-kat will significantly reduce dependence on foreign analogs, which currently account for 90% of the total supply of these products in Russia.

The oilmen say that the domestic development is not inferior to imported counterparts in a number of key parameters: the duration of the catalyst's operation while maintaining the quality characteristics and the volume of the main output.

Rosneft plans to halve its dependence on foreign suppliers of these products by 2024 through developing high-tech catalyst production.
