According to the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Bashkortostan, about 930 thousand tons of various pollutants are emitted into the atmosphere of Bashkiria per year. According to this indicator, the republic ranks seventh in Russia and first in the Volga Federal District.
The main sources of emissions are large petrochemical plants, fuel and energy facilities, and vehicles. Thus, over 4 thousand industrial enterprises and organizations have sources of pollutants emissions and the republican vehicle fleet numbers more than 1,693 thousand vehicles.
There are seven automated stations to control atmospheric emissions in Bashkiria. Two of them are located in Sterlitamak, three in Ufa, and one in each of the cities of Uchaly and Sibay. In 2020, at the expense of the Fund for Social Target Programs, two more stations were built in Salavat. The accreditation of new stations is planned for 2021.
Last year, the Ufa administration also upgraded two stations for the early detection of emissions. In the future, by 2024, the network of air quality control stations should expand to 13 units. Five of them will work in Ufa, three in Sterlitamak, two in Salavat, and one in each of Sibay, Neftekamsk, and Uchaly cities.
