Bashkiria hit Top 10 regions for greenhouse vegetable production

Bashkiria hit the Top 10 regions producing almost 60 percent of all greenhouse vegetables in Russia, the press service of the republican Ministry of Agriculture informs.
Among the leading regions are Lipetsk, Moscow, Kaluga, Volgograd, Novosibirsk regions, Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, Bashkiria, Tatarstan, and the Karachay-Cherkess Republic. They account for more than 57% of the total production of greenhouse vegetables in the country.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia forecasts, at least 1.45 million tons of vegetables will be grown in winter greenhouses this year. This is 7.6% more than in 2020.
As of February 2, more than 114 thousand tons of vegetables were grown in the country's Russian greenhouses against almost 99 thousand tons last year.
As the head of the National Union of Fruit and Vegetable Producers, Mikhail Glushkov stressed, investments in greenhouse projects would contribute to an increase in production.
Thus, since 2016, the area of ​​greenhouse complexes has grown by more than a third and reached about 2.8 thousand hectares in 2020. Simultaneously, the volume of greenhouse vegetable production increased during this time by 78%.
At the end of 2020, vegetable production growth in winter greenhouses exceeded 18%, with a decrease in imports by 15% - to 558.9 thousand tons.
In Bashkiria as a whole, 69.4 thousand tons of greenhouse vegetables were harvested last year. In 2019, the harvest of such vegetables was less - 68.5 thousand tons.
